According to WAND and WICS, the burglary occurred in late February or early March while Shakinah Thomas was on vacation. By the time she returned, her South 13th Street home had been ransacked and several items, including a flat-screen television and shoes, were gone, WICS reported.
The thief also made off with one irreplacable item: an urn filled with the cremains of Thomas’ infant son, Legend, the family said.
“Who would do something like that? That’s cold. It’s bogus. It’s wrong,” the boy’s grandmother, Laquila Powell, told WAND.
Now, she is pleading for the person responsible for the burglary to give the ashes back to the family, the news outlet reported.
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating but has not arrested any suspects in connection with the case, according to WICS.
