In a news release, the South Brunswick Police Department said that the break in the case came from a nearby truck dealer, which had video that allowed detectives to identify both the truck and the woman inside it. Detectives tracked down both the woman and the man in the video and asked them to come in to talk about what had happened.

Police told WNBC that the two people know each other, and were found together in a residential area, but did not reveal either of their names.

The man and woman told police that the woman had been injured after falling and hitting her head while standing inside the moving truck, which caused severe bleeding, WABC reported. Though witnesses saw her being pulled into the truck while asking for help, police told WABC that the driver merely pulled her back in so they could get medical help for her head.

“Too often in our profession outcomes are sad,” South Brunswick Police Department Deputy Chief James Ryan told WABC. “The fact that she’s safe, the fact that we have all the parties here, we’ll take success when we can.”

Police told WABC that they were able to confirm the pair’s story by looking at selfies and text messages sent by the woman during her ordeal.

Original Report:

South Brunswick police issued an alert after the woman was seen yelling for help near a car dealership Wednesday afternoon.

A witness told police the woman was bleeding from her face, and was with a male driver who pulled her back into the truck’s cab, WABC reported.

“The witness started to advance toward the vehicle and as he did, the woman got yanked back up into the car and the vehicle sped off,” Detective Sgt. Timothy Hoover told News12 New Jersey. The truck then turned off at the next exit.

The South Brunswick Police Department shared surveillance video to Twitter, which it said showed a woman popping out of the passenger side window of the tractor-trailer’s cab. Investigators said they were looking for a 2006-2018 Volvo or Mac Bobtail truck, possibly with New Jersey tags and with blue writing on the side, WNBC reported.

“You look at a video like this and the hair starts to stand up on the back of your neck a little bit and say, you know what this is something, we really gotta look into this,” Hoover told WABC. “Is it a human trafficking thing? Is it just as simple as a domestic dispute between a husband and a wife or a boyfriend and a girlfriend? To some degree, she’s held against her will and that’s really what gets us concerned.”
