Downtown San Antonio’s Good Friday passion play will return without crowds

San Antonio’s Passion of the Christ procession will return this week for Good Friday after being canceled last year, but Catholics will not gather en masse to commemorate the crucifixion. Instead, the public will watch the reenactment on TV. Jordan McMorrough, spokesman for the Archdiocese of San Antonio, said the passion play was prerecorded at San Fernando Cathedral and will be broadcast on Friday at noon and 6:30 p.m. on Catholic Television of San Antonio (Spectrum channel 15).

Traditional Easter weekend camping at SA parks prohibited again this year due to COVID-19, mayor says

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has announced that traditional camping over Easter weekend will not be allowed for the second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nirenberg said that while parks will be open to visitors during the daytime, they will not be open for overnight camping, but he encourages the public to visit parks, gather outdoors

Hello Kitty Cafe truck coming to San Antonio’s Shops at La Cantera this Easter weekend

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck will once again roll into San Antonio. The truck will be at The Shops at La Cantera from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday near the entrance of Barnes and Noble. Fans can purchase limited edition baked goods and collectibles

Texas launches website to help people schedule COVID-19 vaccines

The Texas Department of Health and Human Services has launched an online platform to help people schedule appointments for COVID-19 vaccines. People can register online and then be notified by email or text with information on when and where to get the vaccine. Registrants will need to provide personal information like a name, date of birth, address, race and ethnicity, and a password to register with Texas Public Health Vaccine Scheduler. For those without internet access or need help signing up, call 833-832-7067. The call support center will be open daily from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and will have translators available.

The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has opened a COVID-19 hotline for residents to ask questions about the virus. The hotline is available in English and Spanish. BCSO is offering a $2K signing bonus for new detention cadets

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is hiring — and it’s offering a $2,000 signing bonus. The office hopes the incentive will attract applicants from out of town as well. To apply, those interested will have to take written and physical exams. The testing will take place from 8 a.m.-noon at the Tri-Point YMCA at 3233 N. Blood donors sought as San Antonio Metro Health declares blood emergency in city.

San Antonio, South Texas in blood shortage emergency. Health officials said there is not enough blood on hand to treat trauma cases and patients who need emergency surgeries and procedures. The facilities are open during daylight hours Tuesday and Wednesday, but health officials said all blood drives have been canceled and the other donor rooms are not open. Same-day appointments and walk-in donations are being accepted. Officials said donors can call 210-731-5590 for information or to make an appointment, or they can visit SouthTexasBlood.org.
