COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina man stole the show on stage at the state fair’s circus.
Steven Murray took his girlfriend, Tierra Belcher, to the circus at the South Carolina State Fair on Saturday, WLTX-TV reported.
Belcher was looking forward to a fun time, but she had no idea that her boyfriend had an engagement ring and that several family members were hiding several rows behind the couple.
As the hourlong show drew to a close, Murray excused himself to “go to the bathroom,” the television station reported. However, he emerged at center ring with the cast members, who were taking their final bows. A circus worker then grabbed Belcher’s hand and took her to the middle of the tent.
Murray dropped to one knee to propose, and a tearful Belcher said yes.
“When you know, no matter what kind of time it is, you just know that person is the right one, you need to go ahead and take it,” Murray told WLTX. “And, like I said, I literally saw my whole future when I saw her; everything just opened up and said it makes sense, I got to do this right now.”
Belcher said she was stunned.
“I was like, ‘Why is he pulling me? Where am I going? Where am I going?’” she told the television station. “Then I saw (Murray) and I was like, ‘Aww.’ I don’t know I just look like I was in shock.”
The couple has yet to set a wedding date.
