A piece of a SpaceX rocket is on track to crash into the moon.

As dire as that may sound, or as fascinating as it may be, it will not much affect the moon, scientists say, The Washington Post reported.

The rocket, which weighs 4 metric tons, will hit the far side of the moon in March and leave a new crater hitting at a velocity of 5,770 mph.

It will be the “first unintentional case” of space junk hitting the moon, according to the Post.

Its impact will be the end of the SpaceX rocket’s journey, which started when it launched in February 2015, USA Today reported.

It was carrying the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) into orbit. DSCOVR’s mission to send photos each day back to Earth and to track solar storms continues to this day.

Bill Gray was tracking the rocket’s movements and his computer system couldn’t predict the path past March 4. He wrote about it on his blog, the Post reported.

Gray said that while he is “100% certain” the impact will happen that day, he added “space junk can be a little tricky,” so the best way to refine the date and time is to observe the rocket’s path, USA Today reported.

NASA is keeping a close eye and said the prediction is accurate, USA Today reported.
