Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in a news release said that deputies helped rescue a woman was being held against her will inside a house in Dover, Florida.

On Friday, HCSO dispatch received calls about a victim being held against her will. HCSO said that deputies arrived at the house near the 1300 block of Wilkinson Drive at around 12:30 p.m. Deputies tried multiple times to contact the victim and the suspect. After some time, deputies went into the house through the front door which allowed for the victim to escape safely.

The suspect was later identified as Kim Michael Torres, 44, according to WFLA. Torres allegedly refused to come out of the house. A K9 found him apparently hiding in a kitchen cabinet. After paramedics treated him at the scene, Torres was arrested.

“We gave the suspect multiple warnings advising him to come out,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in the news release. “The safety of the victim and our deputies on the scene is the top priority. Had it not been for the professionalism of our deputies, it could have ended differently. I also credit our dispatchers who recognized the need for deputies to respond, after the victim attempted to call for help without the suspect noticing.”

HCSO was not clear how long the victim was being held against her will at the house or what Torres’ formal charges are, according to WFLA.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
