Scott Weiland Responds to Termination From Stone Temple Pilots

Scott Weiland

Scott Weiland is now weighing in with his own official response to today’s news that he has been fired from Stone Temple Pilots. The vocalist stated as recently as yesterday that all was still good with his longtime band, telling Rolling Stone, “STP has not broken up. I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired.” He even added that they were talking about when they wanted to tour again.
However, Wednesday morning (Feb. 27), a press release arrived from STP with the one-line statement reading, “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.” Rumors of discord had been rampant in the band since Slash revealed in an interview earlier this year that part of the reason for Weiland’s public overtures about returning to Velvet Revolver had to do with his being ousted from STP.

With the news breaking about his termination this morning, Weiland has responded with the following statement:

“I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday. – Scott Weiland
Speaking of that ‘Purple at the Core‘ solo tour, it’s been revealed that Weiland intends to focus primarily on music from the ‘Purple’ and ‘Core’ albums with his solo band, though there is expected to be some songs from other albums and even his Velvet Revolver career sprinkled in.
