Australian rockers Jet, who are known for their hits ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ and ‘Cold Hard Bitch,’ have announced that they are parting ways after existing for over a decade and selling six million records.

Jet formed in 2001 in Melbourne, Australia and consisted of brothers Nic Cester (vocals/guitar) and percussionist Chris Cester as well as bassist Cameron Muncey and lead guitarist Mark Wilson.

The band released three studio albums; their debut record ‘Get Born’ in 2003, which sold 3.5 million copies and included hits such as ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl?,’ ‘Cold Hard Bitch’ and ‘Look What You’ve Done.’ Other Jet works include their sophomore disc ‘Shine On’ and their last disc to date; 2009′s ‘Shaka Rock.’

The band just released an official statement addressing the break up. “After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group.” They go on to say “From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and good night.”

Stay tuned for new music coming in the future from Jet members Chris Cester and Mark Wilson — who announced last year that they are working on a side project called DamnDogs.
