Former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson has signed a deal to publish a book about the late and legendary Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Having been friends with Cobain and band mates with his wife Courtney Love, Erlandson has composed 52 letters and compiled them together in ‘Letters to Kurt.’
In ‘Letters to Kurt,’ Erlandson mourns the death of Cobain with both empathy and anger. “It just wasn’t feeling right to write a memoir-style book, and this one just came out of me a couple years ago,” Erlandson told The New York Times. “It felt like the right way to go, but at the same time, I had a lot of hesitation. At some point, it just started to click, and I started to honor it.”

Erlandson continued, “I see these letters as songs; a fifty-two-card pick-up. In no way do I intend to glorify or romanticize Kurt’s chosen way out, nor make light of it … I thought if I could sort out my struggles and disappointments, face my demons, maybe I would be in a position to help others.”

Sonic Youth‘s Thurston Moore has spoken highly of the book. “Eric expresses how enchanting Kurt was, with his thoughtful, radical adult/prose love.”
