It’s been sixteen years since the last Soundgarden album, and that dry spell will finally come to an end in October when the reunited band will release their new disc.
With Soundgarden getting back together, it opens up the floodgates to a whole new world of musical possibilities. In a new interview with Chris Cornell, one of those key questions gets asked.
Before their set on July 13 headlining the first night of London’s Hard Rock Calling festival, VH1 asked Chris Cornell what many fans have probably been wondering for ages – would he ever consider reforming Temple of the Dog?
Temple of the Dog was a side project created by Cornell as a tribute to the late Andrew Wood, who had fronted Mother Love Bone. The band was made up of Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden collaborating with the members of Pearl Jam. They released one disc together in 1991 that spawned singles like ‘Hunger Strike’ and ‘Say Hello 2 Heaven.’
“I don’t know, you never know,” Cornell responded to the question. “The only times that ever happens seems to be once every ten years at a Pearl Jam show. Especially with Matt [Cameron] now being in Pearl Jam.” Cornell continued, “If I walk onstage and sing with Pearl Jam, it’s Temple of the Dog. So that’s happened. And it’s always really fun.”
So while it doesn’t sound like Temple of the Dog are plotting new material any time soon, sounds like there’s always the possibility of a live reunion.
