The Jay-Z-led ‘Made in America’ is ready to take place next week, but one prominent artist on the bill has bowed out at the last minute. Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell was among the top-billed performers for the festival, but it was just announced that a scheduling conflict is taking him away from the event.
The cancellation of the Sept. 2 performance was announced Tuesday (Aug. 28) on his website with the following statement: “Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict Chris Cornell is unable to perform at the Made in America festival in Philadelphia on September 2 as previously planned. Apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment.”
However, it was also revealed that he would be performing at a Barack Obama campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday (Sept. 1), leading to speculation that the Iowa gig forced him to cancel the ‘Made in America’ show. A number of fans voiced their displeasure, with Cornell eventually heading to his social networking sites to respond.
As it stands, the Made in America festival will go on as planned at Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park on Sept. 1 and 2 with Jay-Z, Pearl Jam, Run-DMC, the Hives, Skrillex, Drake, Passion Pit and more taking part.
