Fans following Queens of the Stone Age on Facebook were the first to receive some good news on Monday (Aug. 20) when the elusive band posted one simple word that pointed towards progress on the status of their latest album.
With a post that simply reads “Recording,” the band’s 1.6 million Facebook fans deduced that QOTSA are in the studio working on their much anticipated follow up to their 2007 release ‘Era Vulgaris.’
Writing for their sixth disc reportedly started as far back as 2008 but the band didn’t start recording until early in January of 2011, with sporadic recording sessions throughout the year. The disc was tentatively slated to come out in 2011, but that never happened. Hopefully the band is plotting a new release date for sometime in the near future.
Back in March of 2011, founding QOTSA member Josh Homme talked to the Guardian about how re-releasing their debut self-titled disc that year, and practicing the songs for the subsequent tour, helped shape the sound of their forthcoming disc. “Doing the rehearsals for the first record is really defining the new one,” explained Homme. “It’s been turning the new record into something else. What we were doing was kind of bluesy and now it’s turned into this trancey, broken thing. The robots are back!”
So while the band has been tight-lipped this year about any advancement on the new disc, it looks like the creative wheels are turning. In addition to their “Recording” message on Facebook, the band followed it up with a photo of a guitar in what appears to be a music studio with the caption “Told ya.”
