Velvet Revolver Audition Jimmy Gnecco For New Vocalist

It has been a long, long journey for Velvet Revolver to replace their estranged vocalist Scott Weiland. The band is yet again working with a new vocalist — Jimmy Gnecco — who they’ve been eying for some time now.
The members of Velvet Revolver have had more potential frontmen than any band that we can think of — among the more recognizable names that have entered the VR rumor mill are Chester Bennington, Myles Kennedy, Sabastian Bach, Lenny Kravitz, Josh Todd (Buckcherry), Mike Patton (Faith No More), Royston Langdon (Spacehog), Shooter Jennings — we could keep going but you get the point.

The candidate that made it the furthest into the audition process was Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor — who recorded nine demos with the band before Slash pulled the plug on the potential union. The band may have again reached that point with a new, lesser-known vocalist as drummer Matt Sorum told The Vine recently:

“Yeah, they’re at home trying out a guy right now. Their sitting in a room looking at a singer named Jimmy Gnneco. So we’ll see how that goes, and then we’ve got a couple of other ideas. It looks like Slash is going to make another album, but I’m not sure about his touring and stuff yet. So we’ll see how that goes. But we’re all open to it and interested in trying to do something together.”

As we previously reported, the band has been toying with the idea of bringing on Ours singer Jimmy Gnecco for some time but other projects (bassist Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Slash’s solo album) have prevented them from acting upon it until now. Gnecco performed with Velvet Revolver on a handful of songs at the Road Recovery benefit earlier this year and released a full-band version of his solo album ‘The Heart’ in November.
