Death Wish For Weezer

By Stacey Taylor

A Seattle man is attempting to raise $10 million in hopes to break up the indie band Weezer.

James Burns, a man who claims he's "never been a fan" of the groups music, launched an online campaign Tuesday on thepoint.com, which he claims is not about him but about the "Weezer fans."

"I am tired of my friends being disappointed year after year," he wrote. "I am tired of endless whimsical cutesy album covers and music videos."

"I beg you, Weezer. Take our money and disappear," he said at the end of his post.

Weezer's drummer, Patrick Wilson responded to the campaign in good spirit via his Twitter account.

"If they can make it 20, we'll do the 'deluxe breakup'" he tweeted.

Frontman Rivers Cuomo reassured to his fans on his Twitter page that "no petition and no amount of money will stop us from being together!"

Burns, who's only raised about 1%, told the New York Times Wednesday that a few Weezer fans are not taking his campaign lightly.

"I've actually received death threats over this, believe it or not," he said. "Some people have told me they wish I would get AIDS. This whole campaign, I fully admit that it's silly."

But if he reaches his goal, Burns vows that he'll put the money to a good use.

"I am going to be donating the 10 million dollars to RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) programs across the country," he wrote on Thursday. -cbsnews.com

Meanwhile, Weezer are set to release a rarities collection later this year.

'Death To False Metal', is due out on November 1, featuring 10 previously unreleased tracks from over the last two decades.

'Death To False Metal' features the following tracks:

'Turn Up The Radio'

'Blowin' My Stack'
'Losing My Mind'
'Everyone'
'I'm A Robot'
'Trampoline'
'Odd Couple'
'Auto-Pilot'
